Your Love Gives Joy

[Saturday, September 15]

“Let your love act as a foundation of encouragement for someone else. For know that there are those who are relying on your touch and even words of encouragement this day, so let your love give them joy, says the Lord.”

Prophetic Scripture:

Your love has given me great joy and encouragement… (Philemon 1:7 NIV).

When Paul wrote his letter to his dear friend, Philemon, he complimented him on many things. One of the main things was that Philemon was a person who encouraged people by his love. Paul first mentions the great love Philemon expressed toward all the saints (see Philem. 1:5), showing this was a normal characteristic of this man.  However, Paul says something about him we all have needed to feel from time to time. He showed Paul expressions of love. Philemon, because of his love, was a great encouragement and source of joy for Paul. Paul’s ministry was filled with many trials, but Philemon refreshed Paul in the middle of it. It was his love that lifted Paul’s spirits while he was in prison.

Expressions of love mean a lot to people. Often we don’t have any idea the things people are dealing with every day, whether externally or internally. Sometimes it’s that unexpected card, gift, email, or text message that reminds someone that they are not alone and that someone cares. If the great apostle Paul needed people to show love and give him joy, then we do too! Let your love give joy to someone today.

Prayer:

Father, teach me how to show more love to the people around me and to those who are important in my life. Let my expressions of love bring them joy and encouragement. Amen!
